#SportsTao Preview: Fan Engagement

#SportsTao Preview: Fan Engagement

5 p.m. – 6 p.m. PST

Fan engagement is one of the newest trends in sports marketing. It is an off-shoot arm of sports marketing, focusing on the idea of engagement beyond a promotion or theme night, getting to the core of the fan specifically to ensure retention exists.

Note: For the first time during our first month of Twitter chats, I’m leaving the duties over to the chat’s co-moderators, Paul Fruitman @Dngitasawngrp and Liz Menne @LMenne. I’m on vacation personally this week, right before getting back into college football season, and may have a signal to comment on my IPhone (but may not as well – cell phone service is often spotty in the Pacific Northwest).

Here are the 10 questions for this week:

  1. What are the main off-field complaints that fans have when attending a game?
  2. Is fan engagement one of the keys to keeping fans from staying home and instead attending games?
  3. What are some of the best ways to improve fan engagement?
  4. Can social media help with fan engagement or does it engender a complaint culture?
  5. SF 49ers are adding a stadium app to show concessions/restaurant lines – will other teams follow suit?
  6. How much emphasis should a team place on fan engagement initiatives?
  7. How can teams improve fan touchpoints throughout the venue?
  8. What are some of the first things team’s should focus on in terms of gameday workers?
  9. How valuable are secret shoppers to gauging the fan experience?
  10. How much time should a team invest in customer service training for third party vendors?
